Those of you that are close to me know that I have decided to keep myself busy by creating a blog. I have been reading other people's blogs about the ongoings in their life. So now, here is mine!
I have several things going on in my life. Right now, I will start with getting my outside self together. You, as my audience, will keep me honest. I want longer, healthier hair, healthier nails and really lose this 20-lbs I have been complaining about for the last 2 years. My blog will document my trials and accomplishments of getting to where I want to be. The documentation will go on for 13 months. I will be "my old age" next year. I want to look good. I mean, I look good now but there is room for improvement.
My first blog will be about getting my nails to grow. My nails used to grow to at least a smidgen past my nail tip. As of late, if they get to the tip of finger, I'm lucky. To me, this isn't attractive. Also, my nails have not been as "clean" as they used to be. I wash my hands several times a day so I don't know what that's about. And I recently took off the artificial nails that I wore for about 2-1/2 months. After a week exposed to the air, my nails broke off all the way down to the nail bed. YUK! They are finally getting to a respectable length. So after much research, I have put together a video of this once a week routine that will (hopefully) get my nails to a healthy state that includes them being stronger and longer.
My birthday is in a month. By that time, I would like all my nails to be the same length and have lost at least 5 pounds. If you would like to follow me on this journey, here are the items you will need:
Nail Care
1-small bowl (to soak your hands)
Cuticle oil
Cuticle trimmer
Nail clipper
Cuticle pusher (aka orange stick)
denture cleansing tablets
nail brush
nail hardener
favorite polish (optional)
I'll let you know later what I plan to incorporate in my exercise routine. I'm getting my mind right because to tell you the truth, I don't want to exercise. But wishing and praying it away for the last 18 months hasn't worked.
If you don't have all of the nail care items, let me help you budget. The small bowl, nail clipper, cuticle pusher and nail brush, you can get from any dollar store for under $5.00 total. The cuticle remover, nail hardener and denture cleansing tablets you can get from any drug store (CVS, Rite-Aid, Walgreens or WalMart) for about $12 total. However, you can save some money by making your own cuticle oil from ingredients you may have at home.
Homemade Cuticle Oil
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 tbsp jojoba oil
essential oil (get from health food store like Whole Foods or in the soap making section at a craft store)
The above ingredient amounts will only make enough for about 5 days. If you want to make enough for 3 months (or more), get a bottle about the size of your nail polish, fill the container about 3/4 of the way with olive oil and the rest of the way with the jojoba oil. Then add 5 drops of your essential oil. The essential oil will give it an added scent. You could also use a few drops of lemon juice. I like the essential oil because I can change it up when the moods hit me.
So we are talking about spending approximately $17 to $22 for a routine you can do at home for the next 3 months as opposed to $60/month for the next 3 months in nail shop. You do the math!
In a few days, I will upload the video me doing this. I'm excited and scared but it's do or die at this point.
Stay tuned!
XOXOXO
~Danielle
